Fun with Bigots

RIP: Estelle Reiner

I’m totally stealing this from D-Listed.

Estelle Reiner, mother of Rob and husband of Carl, has passed away at the age of 94. Talk about a long-happy life! She accomplished a lot in 94 years, including jazz singer, painter, married to a comic genius, mother to a wonderful director, and was immortalized into cinema history by dead-panning said, “I’ll have what she’s having”.

I never knew she was the inspiration for Laura Petrie, but that makes her all the more special. She may not have had a direct impact on us, but her presence was definitely felt. Thank you, Estelle.

Brilliant

Best. Wink. Ever.

Oh, and check out these classic shots of "Chemistry"!

Vote!
Eduardo Verástegui: Douche

Yeah, Eduardo Verástegui’s pretty, but he’s also pushing for Yes on Proposition 8. Well, he certainly is a pretty looking bigot isn’t he? You know, I think he deserves a Spank Bank for being so pretty—in fact, I’m not even going to bank him… I’m going to look into his eyes and say “I do.” That’s right, Eduardo, I’m gay-marrying you in my dreams! And you’ll like it. Take that, bigot.

I would also like to add that in our “marriage” he’s a power bottom who can’t get enough of taking it up the ass. I hear the homophobes have problem with being thought of as liking the back door action, so I’m going to piss him off as much as he pisses me off. Speaking of… Did I mention he’s a piss-pig, too? (Um… did I cross a line? Was that too much? Well, it’s not enough for him—he loves the Golden Shower!)

To all you gay boys out there, your mission is to imagine Eduardo shirtless and then I want you to J.O. to the picture. Yes, it will be a struggle, but you can combat this bigotry with the tools that God gave us as gay men: Sarcasm… no, wait I mean fashion first. No. Damn, it’s on the tip of my tongue… Oh, yes: our ability to fall for the worst guys in the world, which is exactly what that douche Eduardo Verástegui is: the worst.

For you straight guys out there, your mission is to imagine Eduardo shirtless, too… but he throws like a girl.

Thus endeth the rant…

Vote No on 8 and support love and oppose bigotry.

Sailing Along...

There’s a part of me that feels sorry for Beatrice Muller as her nine-year stay aboard the Queen Elizabeth 2 comes to an end, but to be on a nine-year vacation, one can hardly be pitied.

Her husband died in 1999 and Bea—as she is called—was urged by her two sons to continue travelling aboard the QE2. And that’s just what she’s done, by booking back-to-back trip for the last nine years.

Contrary to what you might think, she is not fabulously wealthy, but—according to Mrs. Muller—it is comparable to what a retirement home might cost: about $70,000 a year. With much better service than one could get at a retirement home!

She’s sailed thousands of miles and made probably as many friends, but her trip is about to come to an end. The ship ends her run this week and is being turned into a floating hotel for Palm Island in Dubai. And Mrs. Muller is going to be without a home.

Cheer up, dear. The Queen Victoria will be sailing from Civitavecchia, Italy next week and the Queen Mary 2 will be sailing out of Southampton in the middle of November. You can still sail the world in style.

Some interesting articles on Beatrice Muller can be found HERE, HERE, and HERE.

Sorry for the lack of posts. I was on vacation and came back to a pile of work so big... ("How big was it?!") ...it was so big, I haven't had time to even think about SBF!

So, here are a couple favorite "Chesty McChesterson" photos... Did I mention I love me some hairy chests? I do, I do, I do!

Ooga-Booga

This explains a lot: John McCain is being hexed by Obama's relatives in Kenya... even FOX News is involved! There's something about figure eights around McCain... I couldn't make heads or tails because it was all so ridiculous. They come up with all kinds of reasons for losing. Their candidate isn't losing because he's run a poor campaign, no... it's because a hex has been put on him. Yeah, that makes sense.
They want you to pray for McCain to reverse the hex. Instead, pray for these guys that they get their heads out of their asses (after the election...).

Really?!

When Vice-Presidential nominee Sarah Palin isn't spreading lies about Barak Obama, she is running her mouth off about how John McCain is a man of honor. Too bad she isn't. The woman who constantly rails against "big government" seems to like it when "big government" foots the bill for travel for her kids.

I hope she had fun on SNL last weekend, her 15 minutes are coming to an end (less than two weeks away).

Vote... and give.

And if that's not enough, "Joe Six-Pack/Hockey Mom" has got a $150,000 a month budget for clothes! Yeah, she's just a 'regular gal' like you and me... Glad I'm not giving to the RNC... talk about a waste of money.

Whatever McCain Says, He Means the Opposite

I think this is the way to understand McCain. He speaks in opposites. When he says he wants to be President, he means he doesn’t—seriously, look at his running mate! He can’t win with that mess and he knows it. He even calls her “qualified.” It all makes sense to me know…

I saw these on Towelroad and it totally proves my point:

VOTE, fuckers.

Give.
I Don't Fucking Believe This Shit

I got an email from my sister-in-law this morning regarding Proposition 8 in California, which is trying to define marriage as between a man and a woman, denying gay marriage in the state.

Here is her email:

Hey Chris have you seen the ads for yes on 8? Do you know the facts about this? Do you know if there are intentions to follow this all up with education in schools if the law is changed? Also did you hear about the "field trip" to the 1st grade teacher's wedding officiated by S.F. Mayor? What do you think about all that? I just don't think taxpayers money for schools should be put toward a field trip like this. There is so much curriculum for the schools to cover that there is not enuf time as it is! We need to raise our test scores!! Anyway .....I really do believe in No on 8 ....but I just don't feel I can trust what will happen after this if it passes!!! What is next on the agenda in your opinion?
waffling,
M.

"Waffling"? Seriously? This is a woman with an MBA from Santa Clara University. I thought she was smarter than this... well, she does was FOX "News". Here is my lengthy and tart reply (mind you, this is the severely tempered-down version. I removed a lot--but not all--of "fucks"):

Hold onto your hat, I’m going to rant…

The law the Yes on 8 people are trying to pass WILL DENY GAYS THE RIGHT TO MARRY. THAT’S IT. That’s the law they want to pass. Nothing more is written other than that. If that’s what you want, then fine. Fuck it. I don’t care anymore. If you are going to believe that bullshit, do what you want. I’m so tired of people making their decisions based on a “they’re coming to get you” scare-tactic commercial.

However, if this passes, I vow two things that I will push to my dying day: 1) I want churches taxed. If they have the money to push this shit, then they should pay taxes like everyone else. The Mormon Church has put several million dollars for TV commercials, if they’ve got that kind of money to spread lies around, then they can pay for libraries and fire departments. 2) I will push for the “defense of marriage” in the exact same way these people have pushed for the “defense of life”: absolutes, i.e. NO DIVORCE. If you choose to marry, you’re stuck with it. End of discussion. If these idiots feel stopping gays from marrying is the way to “defend the sanctity of marriage” great—but then I intend to push them to the outer fucking limits. Incidentally, NO ONE who sponsored the DOMA in Congress was on their first marriage. In fact, two of them were on their third. In fact, I believe Larry “Toe-Tapping in a Minneapolis Airport Bathroom for Sex” Craig was a sponsor of that bill. That’s fucking rich.

So, what’s the issue? Do you not want gays to have the right to marry, or is it that people might actually discuss it? Or are we back on that whole sanctity of marriage bullshit?

Let me ask you, where is the sanctity of marriage in
getting married in your car? Or by an Elvis impersonator? Where is the sanctity of marriage that the Clark County Court House is open 24 hours on the weekend in case people suddenly get the urge to get married and need a wedding license? Where is the sanctity in marriage where 50% of them end in divorce? Where is the sanctity of marriage in Britney Spears 55 hour “oops” marriage? But two men or women that have been together for 55 years can be denied access to hospital visits from family members because they aren’t married. Jesus fucking Christ! This is the world you want—you can have it.

I thought Republicans were for LESS government involvement in our lives? You guys really need to get your shit together on that and quit flip-flopping around when it suits you.

As for the “field trip”—it was THEIR teacher getting married and they wanted to be a part of it. For the teacher, it was a surprise. The class didn't attend the actual ceremony, but waited outside on the steps of City Hall to congratulate their teacher. My God! They congratulated her? The horror, the absolute fucking horror! Next we might not be able to use “gay panic” as a defense for killing a gay man walking down the street. Oh, that’s right, it’s been used
again and again and again

One final question: when you got married did you have to ask everyone in the state if it was okay to marry the guy you loved?

Sorry to rant. but I’ve been dealing with this shit for the last 25 years and my patience is thin having to justify why I should be allowed to openly love the person I’m with, when straight people can get married and divorced on a whim. I’m not mad at you, but disappointed you are so easily swayed by a crappy campaign commercial.

--Chris

No on 8. Give what you can, we need to get the word out to those who don't fucking get it.

Is He Serious?

First, Sarah Palin continuously and blatantly lies in saying that she's cleared of any unethical wrong doing in the Troopergate case, now this from John McCain.

I always thought they were full of shit, but is everything they say a complete and utter lie?

Vote.

Dozens...? Really...?

This is news? If it were hundreds, I could understand, but 30 people getting a deal on gas? Well, that just seems like you're rubbing the rest of the country's faces into it. Of course, the media is covering McCain's rallies and dozens of people are showing up for those as well...

I Really Should be Working...

...but I keep finding these wonderful things:

It’s “Hammer” Time

Matt Stairs, of the Philadelphia Phillies: "You want to get that one big hit where you feel like you’re part of the team … not that I don’t feel like I’m part of the team, by no means, but when you get that nice celebration coming into the dugout and you’re getting your ass hammered by guys, it’s no better feeling than to have that done."

Here are a few quotes I heard from the announcers this weekend while watching football:

“Here he finds his tight end…”

“…and he takes it right up the middle...”

“It was crazed. Just a pile of men.”

Naturally, I saw a whole bunch of Yes on 8 ads. Yeah, these guys aren't gay at all...
Bitty

While watching the FABulous Little Britain USA on HBO the other night, I couldn’t help but think of that strange video I posted of the mother still breast feeding her children at 8 years old. It makes me wonder how far off this video is.

Fungus Among Us

A fascinating video of fungus firing its spores to the tune of the Anvil Chorus from Il Trovatore. I’ll spare you the gory details of where this particular fungus comes from, but it can fire up to six feet.

The Disaster That Would Be A Palin Presidency

This is Andrew Sullivan’s view of what the first moments of a Palin Presidency would be:

However, an astute reader noted to Andrew that “The only problem with this is that I haven't seen any evidence Palin doubts her abilities to run the country well. In this scenario, she'd shout a triumphant "At last! My chance!" summarily dump the pilot out of his seat, take the controls and confidently proceed to crash the plane, taking everyone on board with her."

Only 26 days left, people. If your ass isn’t registered, bring it over to me and I will kick it until next Tuesday. Oh, yeah… I went there.

Just Falling Leaves...

As you can see, Fall is upon us.

I love this tree by my building. It changes with the seasons in rapid style. Last week, the leaves were all green. In two weeks, it will be bare. Then, while still in the depths of winter, little green buds will appear. By the time Spring is apon us, it will already be full.

I can hardly wait for 'sweater weather'.

So True

The Literal Ah-Ha (Ha-Ha)

Something to Think About...

The next time you're talking to a friend, acquaintance or family member that is planning on voting for McCain and they’re not concerned about Sarah Palin’s qualifications to be Vice President; show them the quote below from NBC Nightly News’ Brian Williams. It puts the whole thing into a chilly perspective:

“The other way of looking at it is: it’s September 11, 2001. The President is airborne and the Secret Service won’t yet let him land, because we know that little of what has just happened to us. The Vice-President has taken hold of the machinery of government inside the White House. He is in the Secure Tank. That’s also the job description we’re talking about here. That’s part of the choice we get to make in 32 days.”

Think she could handle the situation? Hell no.

Chose Hope.
Ceasing to be an Accomplice of Injustice

Father Geoff is a Catholic Priest in Fresno, CA who came out to his parishioners this weekend while urging them to vote No on Proposition 8. Half the parishioners gave him a standing ovation.

Below is the beginning of his sermon. The rest can be found at World of Jeff, who is a friend of Father Geoff. In his blog, Jeff ends with "I am so proud of him." We all are, Jeff, for good reason. Below is Farther Geoff's sermon:

As most of you know, I was appointed pastor here at the Newman Center on April 15th of this year. When I arrived, I set out to address a series of various projects to repair our facilities. To date, most of these deferred maintenance items have been addressed. In the middle of dealing with contractors, the parish finance committee, the building department of the diocese, neighbors, etc., I received a FAX from the bishop’s office on the 30th of June. It was the bishop’s pastoral letter for the month of July.

This single FAX threw my whole summer, and in fact, my whole life into a turmoil. Recently, I was speaking with some of our parishioners who advocate for the ordination of women. In the course of our conversation, a question arose which has haunted me: “At what point do you cease to be an agent for healing and growth and become an accomplice of injustice?” By asking all of the pastors of the Diocese of Fresno to promote Catholics to vote “Yes” on Proposition 8, the bishop has placed me in a moral predicament.

In his “Pastoral,” the bishop states: “Marriage is much more than simply two persons loving each other. Marriage is naturally, socially, and biologically, directed to bringing forth life.”

Actually, there are TWO ends to marriage: 1) Unitive and 2) Procreative. The unitive end of marriage is simply a union of love and life. The Procreative end is, of course, to create new life. It is important to understand that the unitive end of marriage is sufficient for a valid marriage. The Church sanctions, and considers a sacrament, the marriage of elderly heterosexual couples who are biologically incapable of reproduction. So, if two people of different genders who are incapable of reproduction can enter into a valid marriage, then why is that two people of the same gender, who are incapable of reproduction, cannot enter into a valid marriage.

The objections which are raised at this point are taken from Sacred Scripture. Scripture scholars reveal the problematic nature of attempting to use passages from the Hebrew Scriptures as an argument against same gender relationships. Essentially, these scriptures are addressing the cultic practices in which sex with temple prostitutes was part of an act of worshiping Pagan gods. With regard to the Pauline epistles, John J. McNeill, in his book: “The Church and the Homosexual,” makes the following point: “The persons referred to in Romans 1:26 are probably not homosexuals that is, those who are psychologically inclined toward their own sex—since they are portrayed as ‘abandoning their natural customs.’” The Pauline epistles do not explicitly treat the question of homosexual activity between two persons who share a homosexual orientation, and as such cannot be read as explicitly condemning such behavior. Therefore, same gender sex by two individuals with same sex orientation is not “abandoning their natural custom.”

The New Republic: The Election is Over

I read an interesting (and hopeful) article in The New Republic this morning. Check it out:

It's Over: Why Bill Ayers Won't Save John McCain

Perpetually fretting Democrats will not want to accept it. The campaigns themselves can't afford to believe it. Many journalists know it but can't say it. And there will certainly be some twists and turns along the way. But take it to a well capitalized bank: Bill Ayers isn't going to save John McCain. The race is over. (Read the rest here.)

Love Poem

"The greatest of these is love."

For all of you Californians, please vote NO on 8!

And if you have the time, tell The Governator he's a homophobic douchebag for not approving Harvey Milk Day.
"Fiscal Conservative"

Friends don't let friends vote for "fiscal conservatives".
SOAPBOX
Caution: Rant Ahead

So now the right-wing douchebags are all in a tizzy because PBS NewsHour anchor, Gwen Ifill, is writing a book on the new era of black politicians: The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama". Ms. Ifill, has been accused of being “in the pocket of Barak Obama” because she is black. When she defended herself stating, that “no one’s ever assumed a white reporter can’t cover a white candidate”, she was accused of pulling the race card. She’s playing the card the nut-job just handed her. How can she not respond to that?

Obviously, none of these people watch The News Hour on PBS or listen to NPR. PBS dissects the news—giving more in depth and impartial coverage to a topic than any other news source. All the other “news” networks offer opinions and shouting heads.

The NewsHour doesn’t do sound bites. They examine the whole story without opinion. The NewsHour, on average, covers four to five stories in an hour. Mind you, that is an hour of news without commercial interruption.

So, it’s okay for John Ellis, a conservative political advisor and cousin of W. to be a producer at FOX News, but it’s not okay for a journalist (an actual JOURNALIST) to write a book on something topical?

How many books has Sean Hannity written on how great the GOP is (“Winning the War Over Liberalism”, “Defeating Terrorism, Despotism, and Liberalism”), and then soft-balls interviews with Palin? (A classic example of a set up: “Is Senator Obama then using what happened on Wall Street… for political gain? Is there a danger of a presidential candidate is saying to the world that America's situation of economic crisis is the worst that we've seen in decades — which was words that he was using yesterday — is there a danger in terms of the world hearing that?”)

I think this is good for the Republicants, when Palin puts her foot in her mouth yet again, they can blame “the liberal media” and their “gotcha journalism.” How can this woman be expected to lead the nation if she can’t handle one simple debate?
[UPDATE: Ifill's book is no secret--read the Washington Post article HERE.]
