I never want to think about Bush again, but I don’t want to forget, either. Bush came to office proclaiming he would "restore dignity to the White House." One last time, in completely random order, let’s look back at his legacy:*

Operation Overlord

We’ve known this day was coming. We knew the plans, but not The Plan. It would be ugly. We were well prepared, we knew we would not all survive the day.

As the train brought us in, I looked around. When the smoke clears, will I see these people again? Will I be one of the fallen? One of the survivors? Which is better? Will I survive today, just to fall later? Leaving things to fate scares me, yet comforts me. I might get The Call, yet it’s out of my hands.

It was over before I knew it had begun. Casualties were expected, but never easy. The loss comes hard, very hard. Friends I have grown close to are gone.

The day is spent getting sporadic reports. The cuts are deep. Very deep. The losses are more than expected. Surprising. Frightening. Many tears. Many, many tears.

Walking around, I see the fallen with their few possessions and shattered dreams. The survivors walk around in a daze. Happy to still be here, mourning the loss of those close to us. We hug. More tears. Some laughs. The sense of loss hangs in the air.

Tomorrow will be better. Tomorrow we start anew. From the fires comes the phoenix. Time will heal the wounds.

Recession? More Like A Depression



Bush is the new Hoover! Yesterday, he actually said that the U.S. economy is “robust.” You know, it doesn’t surprise me. Not a word out of that man’s mouth was the truth for the last 8 years, why should he start now?

Still, it makes me wonder how that douche can sleep at night knowing he’s ruined the lives of so many. This is why I think Dubya is Satan. The Devil isn’t going to tell you he’s The Devil, he’s going to say he’s a Christian and then do the opposite…

No Title (can't think of anything clever other than Bush Sucks Ass!)

President Bush said Thursday that the country is not headed into a recession. He also said there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, that the war in Iraq was going well, that we weren’t spying on Americans, Iraq was directly linked to Al Qaeda, the war wouldn’t last long, the war would cost only about $2 billion…

…ladies and gentlemen, that means we are in a f**king recession! I should be ranting and raving about this, but I can’t. Because two more important items came across my computer this morning. First, a spoiler* called "Spoilt":

The guy who came up with this t-shirt is a fricken genius! I love it. I only had trouble figuring out one of them. Quite a deal at $15… sadly, it’s sold out.

I licked my wounds by purchasing the 40th Anniversary Edition of “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?” which was released this week! “Dinner” is one of my all-time favorite movies: great story, brilliant cast, and Hepburn & Tracy’s last, he died just 17 days after filming ended.

Tracy’s amazing 8-minute monologue of the power of love—a great source of pride for him that he did not miss a single line during the filming—is one of the best in film history. Not only is he speaking as Matt Drayton, but also for his relationship to Katherine Hepburn. “The only thing that matters is what they feel, and how much they feel, for each other. And if it's half of what we felt- that's everything.”

Katherine won her second Oscar** for the role of Christina Drayton. Well deserved as she gives a wonderful performance. Her dismissal of her assistant is one of my favorites, ending with, “Don’t speak—just go!”

It’s a bit dated and, looking back, it’s hard to imagine the world was that backwards—in some places it still is—but it is still an amazing movie and a joy to watch.

*If you’re pissed that it ruined something for you, you really should get out more…

**She won her third Oscar the next year (The Lion in Winter), when she died in 2003, she had four Oscars from her 12 nominations. A record that won’t be broken anytime soon.

We Need You, Howard Beale

I was reading Andrew Sullivan’s Daily Dish this morning and I saw this:



Howard Beale—played brilliantly by Peter Finch—could give that same speech today, it’s completely relevant to our current situation.

We need someone to get us up off our collective asses and shut Bush/Cheney down. We could use a good ole “Nixon resigning in shame” right about now—and Dubya is just the douchebag to do it.

Come on, people. Get mad as Hell—and don’t take it anymore.

(Hopefully) My Last Comment on Libby’s Clemency

Something from Andrew Sullivan’s Daily Dish… Bush is a colossal ass—he lies, he cheats, he lies, he swears, and he claims to be compassionate. Nothing could be further from the truth.
