Katey Sagal: Singer

Last night I went to The Plush Room and saw Katey Sagal perform. WOW! She was fantastic. I knew the woman could sing, but I didn’t know she could SING!

I was so impressed, after the show I bought her album (she signed it) and today, I went to her website and bought another of her albums.

Ms. Sagal puts on a FANTASTIC show—her band was great and the audience (small, but good sized for a Wednesday cabaret show) was really into her. I was impressed by the number of younger people there (in their 20’s). With cabaret acts, I expect to be making up the younger demographic.

Jilly-bean and I met this wonderful couple who recently moved from New Orleans (they loved the show, too) and a couldn’t-be-cuter young, hipster gay couple sitting directly in front of us enjoyed the show as well.

She writes most of her songs, so she is not singing The American Songbook, which is new for me. I’m used to Andrea Marcovicci (whom I adore), but this was so different, yet equally entertaining.

Katey Sagal continues through September 8, and if you’re in the San Francisco Bay Area, I strongly encourage you to see the show. And if she’s coming to your town, go and see her, you won’t be disappointed!

Jilly-Bean here.

Not only is she a fabulous performer, but she is hot, no, she is H-O-T. Damn girl, you are a FINE fifty-something lady. Super Fine even.

Wow, she really got under my skin. Is it a little warm in here? Now if I could only get Katey and Sharon in a room together, I could just die and go directly to heaven. I think I am going to have to update my HOT 25 list!

Okay, back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Oh, I'm totally disappointed I won't be able to see her, especially since you and JB enjoyed the show so much. I'm surprised to learn she writes her own songs---I had no idea about this side of her talents. I'm going to see if I can download her music somewhere.

Jilly-Bean, now you've got me thinking about Sharon and Katey, too. It is hot in here. :-)

Michele,

You can buy her albums online. Daddy's Girl is wonderful (it's about her parents).

One of the stories she told was about growing up in LA and Judy Garland, with her kids Joey and Lorna Luft, lived just down the street. Katey used to put on shows with Lorna, Joey and the other stars' kids in the neighborhood. One day, Judy showed up to one of their "shows" and was surprised no one was there. She decided to drum up business by standing in the street yelling "fire," in her mink coat, turban, and slippers. Katey said that Ms. Garland "slept in a lot."
