Polishing the Raised Scepter of Love

One of the best monologues, ever. Not only is it brilliantly--and hysterically--written, the look on the kid's face is priceless. I'm not sure it held up to its early promise, but Weeds has always been an enjoyable show to watch.

Most Important Song of the Day

I saw this at Crunk + Disorderly… Mercy! Check out her face as she’s singing “No more Bacon, no more sausage”, she is truly bummed out about that. He, on the other hand, looks rather happy not to have their breakfast staples… not sure if it’s a cost thing, or he just wants her to drop 4 or 5 stone…

There’s a lesson to be learned from watching and [shudder] listening to these two: maybe—just maybe—Heaven isn’t really Heaven without bacon… delicious, salty, artery-clogging, heart attacking-inducing, friggin’ awesome bacon. I’m not saying, I’m just sayin’. Something to think about…

Of course, all I can think about now is sausage, bacon, eggs, and biscuits… and I almost never have sausage, bacon, eggs, and biscuits for breakfast! Stupid singers... making me hungry.

What Kind of Superhero Are You?

I am "The Sporked Spatula... of Doom!" I added the "of Doom" because it's so friggin' awesome and it's SO very me.

Go to The Hero Factory and find out what kind of super hero you are. Special thanks to Cav for sending me this.
Twitter Me This...

I’m a man of few talents… well, some talents, but one can’t make money at them (legally—wacka-chicka-wacka-chicka-bow-wow!). I am somewhat content with my lot in life: it’s not a lot, but it’s a life! (Ba-da-BING! Thank you, I’ll be here all week… try the veal…)

I know who I am. I know what I am… and then came Twitter.

I don’t get it. While, I’m not the most technical guy around, I do have a general understanding of technology, computers, the web, etc. I may not always understand it, but I get it. I’ve got a blog (duh)—actually, I have several. I have a Facebook page—which I find silly, stupid, pointless and so incredibly addictive. However, I don’t get Twitter.

With Twitter, I can tell people what I’m doing right now, which is only good if you continuously keep telling people what you’re doing all day long. Facebook, on the other hand, is very participatory. I can see what all my friends are up to, check out their pictures, join some groups, have an online conversation, change my profile, post 25 things no one knows and/or cares about me, all while pretending to work—even as I send someone an imaginary gift that they don’t want.

But Twitter… what the hell does it actually do? I can post minutiae about myself all day long, but it doesn’t really prove anything other than I’ve got nothing to do but post minutiae about myself continuously all day long. I know I don’t have much of a life, but do I really need a website to confirm it for me?

Feel free to prove my point: Twitter me all about it…

Spank Bank Friday has got Balls

Spring is almost here, so let's go balls out for a little bit of Jake Gyllenhaal playing our nations favorite pastime.

Speaking of balls out, Cristiano Ronaldo--international futból star, was made into a float at this years Carnival, which is a high honor...

...or maybe not (possible NSFW):

Genius, Super-Genius!

Gotta hand it to The Onion, they know how to do news right.

Tacos Rule!

As you may have heard, Jack Box was recently hit by a bus and is in a coma. Sad as this is, there is something to celebrate: today only, Jack-in-the-Box is giving away TWO FREE TACOS! Go to the website and print the coupon and present at your local Jack-in-the-Box to claim your tacos!*

I'm very excited about this, as my friends keep telling me how fantastic the tacos are at Jack-in-the-Box. I think everyone knows my love of Taco Bell (Chicken Quesedillas? To die for! Chicken Taco Fiesta Salad? Un-freakin'-believable! Burrito Supreme? Enjoyable...), so this is a big step for me. Today, we test the fortitude of the Jack-in-the-Box taco... for free!

In the meantime, keep good thoughts about Jack... and that I enjoy my two free tacos.

Spank Bank Friday... More Rugby!

Meet Sean Lamont, he's a Scottish rugby union player who plays on the wing for Northampton Saints and Scotland. He stands 6'2" and weighs in at 220 pounds.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is perfection... enjoy!

I know I posted a rugby player for the last SBF, but... jeez, look at the guy! Seriously, LOOK AT HIM!!! Can you blame me?

Slumdog Chrismatica™

"And the Oscar goes to..."

And here we are… 2009, celebrating another Oscar with a new President. Can you smell the change? Politically, there may be change in the air, but The Academy is extremely predictable.

Using my proprietary mathematical formula I’ve humbly dubbed Chrismatica™, my predictions for the 2008 Oscars are as follows—remember, if you bet and win, you split the cash with me. If you lose, well, you shouldn’t have been betting in the first place.

Performance by an actor in a leading role
Richard Jenkins in "The Visitor" –Did anyone see this?
Frank Langella in "Frost/Nixon" – “I’m not a crook!” You’re not a winner, either.
Brad Pitt in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" – Still too pretty.
Sean Penn in "Milk" – My personal choice, but his dog is still alive.
Mickey Rourke in "The Wrestler" – Hollywood loves a comeback… and his dog just died.

Performance by an actor in a supporting role
Josh Brolin in "Milk" – Great performance… but he’s still alive.
Robert Downey Jr. in "Tropic Thunder" – most deserving… again, still living.
Philip Seymour Hoffman in "Doubt" – best actor of his generation… currently breathing
Michael Shannon in "Revolutionary Road" – Not sure who he is, but I hear he's still alive.
Heath Ledger in "The Dark Knight" – “He’s dead, Jim.” And we have a winner.

Performance by an actress in a leading role
Anne Hathaway in "Rachel Getting Married" – She’s pretty. Pretty doesn’t win.
Angelina Jolie in "Changeling” – Stop adopting kids, already.
Melissa Leo in "Frozen River" – Who?
Meryl Streep in "Doubt" – As always, brilliant… but fully clothed.
Kate Winslet in "The Reader" – Two key words: “Naked” and “Holocaust”

Performance by an actress in a supporting role
Amy Adams in "Doubt" – I like her… she was fun in Enchanted. Not so fun here…
Penélope Cruz in "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" – She really should win
Viola Davis in "Doubt" – Who?
Taraji P. Henson in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" – Again, Who?
Marisa Tomei in "The Wrestler" – Stripper! In Hollywood that is considered acting…

Achievement in directing
"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" David Fincher – Nice special effects…
"Frost/Nixon" Ron Howard – Opie already has an Oscar
"Milk" Gus Van Sant – Great movie… but too gay (even for Hollywood)
"The Reader" Stephen Daldry – Directing a Holocaust film? I can smell the desperation…
"Slumdog Millionaire" Danny Boyle – Shot on the streets of Mumbai, used local kids, fought to keep production going, did an amazing job… it all adds up (plus, he won the DGA, which puts this into a lock).

Best motion picture of the year
"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"
Really? Really? Really…
"Frost/Nixon" Did anyone see this?
"Milk" Too gay.
"The Reader" Fewer people saw this than Frost/Nixon.
"Slumdog Millionaire" Bank on it: Almost went to video—it’s the little film that could. Also, if China’s not going to be our future overlords, then India certainly will be… we’d better start sucking up now.

The Trilogy Meter

The Trilogy Meter by Dan Meth at Danmeth.com. It's pretty much spot-on (click on it for a larger image). However, I must admit to enjoying Jurrasic Park III, but that's more of a 'guilty pleasure' than it's a good movie.
Check out the rest of his site--he's very talented and extremely funny.

Sex Education

There are reasons that sex ed should be taught in school and not by parents. Here’s a classic example (NSFW… but SO funny!):

See parts 2, 3 and 4 at Funny or Die. Let me just say part 2 is so extremely offensive, that I couldn't stop laughing ("...they're called tramps or whores or your aunt Carol.")

You have GOT to be sh*tting me! This is unfreakin' believable! I used to fear a black hole swallowing up our universe... I've now come to realize that we are the black hole.*

Be sure and watch the video... I seriously can't figure out how he fathered a child when it clearly appears his balls haven't even dropped.

Who Can Blame Him?

Are you with me fellas? Fellas…? Hello…? Really? I’m the only one who’d… REALLY?!

buncha liars... you'd totally do it and you know it...
Scariest. Words. Ever.*

“History through Quentin Tarantino’s eyes”.

I think history is going to take a major kicking to the nuts… but, lordy, how I want to see this!

*Okay, not the scariest ever, that would be: "Directed by Tom Cruise and Starring John Travolta"
"Joaquin, I'm sorry you couldn't be here tonight"

Holy crap! This had better be some sort of Andy Kaufman he-thinks-it's-funny-but-everyone-else-thinks-it's-lame kind of a stunt.

Personally, he and I are done, professionally.

I'm still giggling...

Spank Bank Friday: Angels & Demons

I found this on flickr at Mr. Moog's Photostream... he's got some fantastic pics. Any guesses why I chose this one?

If they really want more people to go to church so they can get to Heaven, shouldn't angels be represented more by pics like this?

I Love This Show!

VH1 is the master of crass-stupid programming... and I love them for it. And why not? They are all about The Love (of fame and money). From Rock of Love (1 & 2 and The Bus), Flavor of Love (1 & 2), I love New York (1 & 2), I Love (The 70's, 80's 90's--parts 1, 2, & 3-D) and now, my new favorite: I Love Money (2)!

The genius of I Love Money is they take the losers (read: crazy personalities) from all the other reality shows and they put them in a house together to try and win $250K. These people would put their dignity on the line for a bag of Cheetos if it meant being on television for 30 more seconds.

Here's a clip from last night's episode where Tamara seriously loses it. Well, that's not saying much, she said she wanted to win a houseboat and live in Malibu. When someone questioned her if that was a good idea to have a houseboat on the ocean she replied, "Duh. Where would you put it, a lake?" Adding to her brilliance, she later noted that she's deathly afraid of water... Does she know what a houseboat is? Does she know what a boat is?

Enjoy:

Dysfunctional Love

I have spoken of my love of Despair, Inc., the fine purveyors of Demotivators™. Well, they have created something very special for Valentine’s Day: BitterSweets® “The candy for the rest of us”.

We’ve all seen (and, unfortunately tasted) those Necco Wafer heart candies with little messages on them like “I luv U” and “U Sweet”. Well, Despair is never one to suck on the teet of sentimentality*: “When cruelty and holidays collide, the weak-willed find solace in self-pity and comfort foods. And now, Despair Inc. is pleased to announce that we've combined BOTH into a radical new offering.”

They come in three different varieties (Dumped, Dejected, and Dysfunctional) in six different flavors (Banana Chalk, Grape Dust, Nappy-Citric, You-Call-This-Lime?, Pink Sand and Fossilized Antacid).

"Dejected" sayings include:
I MISS MY EX - PEAKED AT 17 - MAIL ORDER - TABLE FOR 1
I CRY ON Q - U C MY BLOG? - LOSS LEADER - A FINE WHINE
MOMMY ISSUES - DIGNITY FREE - DORK MAGNET - PURE NAUSEA
WE HAD PLANS - MAIL ORDER - SETTLE 4LESS - I'M HOT INSIDE

"Dysfunctional" sayings include:
ANNULMENT - I BEEN CREEPIN - HE CAN LISTEN - GAME ON TV
CALL A 900# - P.S. I LUV ME - DO MY DISHES - BOOTY INFL8N
PAROLE IS UP! - AWFUL INLAWS - SUB PRIME - I WANT HALF
RETURN 2 PIT - NO FIX 4 DUMB - RATHER DRINK - MUTUAL DISGUST

"Dumped" sayings include:
I GOT SOBER - HE FIT U FAT - U LEFT SEATUP - USED U 4 FUN
JUST A FRIEND - BACK 2 KENNEL - DORKA PHOBIC - U HAVE A BLOG
RUSSIAN BRIDE - CELEB8 THX2U - DOG IS CUTER - TRADIN YOU IN
FORGET WE MET - KISS A FROG - SHE IS 22! - HE HAS A JOB

Because Despair is never content with just cutting into your soul, they have to pour salt in it, too: “Supplies are limited. But the pain that accompanies them may not be. “

The more I see Obama in action, the more I like him. National Geographic is producting a new series on Air Force One and has an exclusive of Obama's first trip with the new Captain (when we change presidents, the captain of AF1 changes, too... who knew?).

I also learned you can follow AF1 on Twitter... now, if I could only understand Twitter.

Faces in The Crowd

Photographer David Bergman created an awesome--and SEARCHABLE--panaramic photograph of the inauguration of Barak Obama.

The thumbnail below is the searchable panorama...

...and this is how close you can zoom (actually, you can get closer and see the scowl on Dick Cheney's face and the confusion on Dubya's...).

End of the World

I heard Matt Alber sing with Chanticleer a few years back—I had no idea who he was at the time (all the voices are amazing). I’ve been listening to this song on constant replay for the last 24 hours. They lyrics are below. Heartbreaking and heartwarming (depending on your current relationship status).

End of the World
I don’t want to ride this roller coaster
I think I want to get off
But they buckled me down
Like it’s the end of the world
If you don’t want to have this conversation
Then you better get out
Cause we’re climbing to our death
At least that’s what they want you to think
Just in case we jump the track
I have a confession to make
It’s something like a cork screw

I don’t wanna fall, I don’t wanna fly
I don’t wanna be dangled over
The edge of a dying romance
But I don’t wanna stop
I don’t wanna lie
I don’t wanna believe it’s over
I just wanna stay with you tonight

I didn’t mean to scream out quite so loudly
When we screeched to a halt
I’m just never prepared
For the end of the ride
Maybe we should get on something simpler
Like a giant balloon
But I’ve got two tickets left, and so do you
Instead of giving them away to some stranger
Let’s make them count, come on
Let’s get back in line again and ride the big one

Don’t you want to fall, don’t you want to fly
Don’t you want to be dangled over
The edge of this aching romance
If it’s gonna end, then I wanna know
That we squeezed out every moment
But if there’s nothing left can you tell me why
That it is you’re holding onto me
Like it’s the end of the world

'Bout Time

This arrived in my mailbox today (perfect):

Dear World:

We, the United States of America, your top quality supplier of the ideals of liberty and democracy, would like to apologize for our 2001-2008 interruption in service. The technical fault that led to this eight-year service outage has been located, and the software responsible was replaced November 4. Early tests of the newly installed program indicate that we are now operating correctly, and we expect it to be fully functional on January 20. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the outage. We look forward to resuming full service and hope to improve in years to come.

We thank you for your patience and understanding,

Sincerely,

Never Forget

I never want to think about Bush again, but I don’t want to forget, either. Bush came to office proclaiming he would "restore dignity to the White House." One last time, in completely random order, let’s look back at his legacy:*

Katrina and Bush telling “Brownie” he was doing “a hell of a job” as people were still drowning in their attics.
The U.S. Attorney firings and the politicizing of the Justice Department
Alberto Gonzales
Systematic dismantling Civil Rights Division at the Justice Department
Falsifying the reasons for war in Iraq and the 5,000 American lives lost
Not fully armoring U.S. soldiers in Iraq
Banning photographing U.S. war dead
Patient neglect at Walter Reed
Pat Tillman and false military reporting
The Iraq War and the 600,000+ Iraqi lives lost
The Patriot Act
War on Terror
War on Science

"Khan!"

I'm sad to report that Mr. Roarke's fantasy of living forever has ended... Ricardo Montalban has passed away at the age of 88. For some of you, he was Mr. Roarke on Fantasy Island, for others, the genetically enhanced superhuman Khan Noonien Singh from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

I'll always remember him for his Chrysler commercials and how I still get a boner when I hear the words "rich, Corinthian leather..." [Ooooh... that's the stuff!]

He was always the superior being...

Operation Overlord

We’ve known this day was coming. We knew the plans, but not The Plan. It would be ugly. We were well prepared, we knew we would not all survive the day.

As the train brought us in, I looked around. When the smoke clears, will I see these people again? Will I be one of the fallen? One of the survivors? Which is better? Will I survive today, just to fall later? Leaving things to fate scares me, yet comforts me. I might get The Call, yet it’s out of my hands.

It was over before I knew it had begun. Casualties were expected, but never easy. The loss comes hard, very hard. Friends I have grown close to are gone.

The day is spent getting sporadic reports. The cuts are deep. Very deep. The losses are more than expected. Surprising. Frightening. Many tears. Many, many tears.

Walking around, I see the fallen with their few possessions and shattered dreams. The survivors walk around in a daze. Happy to still be here, mourning the loss of those close to us. We hug. More tears. Some laughs. The sense of loss hangs in the air.

Tomorrow will be better. Tomorrow we start anew. From the fires comes the phoenix. Time will heal the wounds.

Layoffs… like war, but no parade afterwards.
